FAQ: FAQ

IS PHYSIOTHERAPY COVERED BY PRIVATE INSURANCE?

Most private extended health benefits will cover physiotherapy and often, will provide the same coverage for your children as they do for you. Not all insurance plans are the same, so please
check with your plan to ensure your coverage prior to booking an appointment. Likewise, although most insurance plans recognize and cover virtual physiotherapy appointments and treatments, it is important to again check with your insurance plan prior to a virtual therapy session.

CAN MY INSURANCE PLAN BE BILLED DIRECTLY?

While I am not able to bill an insurance plan directly, you will be provided with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company following each therapy session.

DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?

A doctors referral is not necessary, however some extended health benefit plans do require one, so check with them if you’re unsure.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR SERVICES?

As a private physiotherapy practitioner I do require payment after each session. I am able to accept cash, cheque or e-transfer payments. I am able to provide invoices as proof of payment for insurance and income tax purposes at the time of treatment.

Please contact me to discuss therapy package options at a discounted rate.

Please also don’t hesitate to contact me, if your child needs physiotherapy but you’re worried about the cost and we can discuss 3rd party and alternate funding opportunities. I am happy to support you with any applications for funding any way I am able.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL A SESSION?

If a session needs to be rescheduled, please give as much notice as possible. I ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice. Missed appointments with no advance notice or late cancellations may be billed a fee of $50.00.
I value your time and commitment, however, by missing a scheduled appointment you are taking that time slot away from another child and a family that may need it.

WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?

Your child’s personal health information will not be shared with any outside parties without your written informed consent. At any time, you have the option to provide me with the contact information of any of your child’s healthcare or community team and determine whether you would like me to contact them.

Privacy of personal information is important to me and I follow all recommendations under the PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004) and PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, 2001) legislations and in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and the Ontario Regulated Health Professionals Act.

UNSURE IF PHYSIOTHERAPY IS RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?

Please contact me by email, phone or through my social media and I will be happy to chat more about whether therapy is appropriate for your child, as well as whether appointments should be in-person, virtually or a combination.
Just looking for more information? Let me know and I will get back to you as shortly.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE COME FOR THERAPY? IS MORE ALWAYS BETTER?

The short answers are - it depends and not always!
After the initial assessment and consultation, I will be able to make recommendations on follow-up based on your child’s needs, your family’s needs and expectations, you and your child’s goals and schedule. Together we can decide what will work best for you and your child around follow-up. Follow-up may be one or a combination of; direct therapy, virtual therapy, home programming, consultation to daycare, school or community. Therapy may also take place weekly, biweekly, monthly as an intensive block or even 1-2 times per year. Therapy programs will be set up based on each individual child and family situation and are able to change and evolve as needed.
